Sometimes, the hardest part of being hurt is having to explain why it hurts.
When someone is struggling, our first instinct is often to give advice. We tell them to stay strong, think positively, move on, or look at the brighter side. The words may be well-intended, but sometimes they are not what the person needs.
There are moments when someone does not want a solution. They simply want to feel understood.
A quiet βI understandβ can mean more than a long speech. Saying βYou donβt have to go through this aloneβ can give someone enough space to breathe without feeling judged or rushed.
Being heard can make pain feel less heavy. Not because the problem suddenly disappears, but because the person no longer has to carry it while feeling completely alone.
Real emotional support does not always require perfect words. Sometimes it means sitting beside someone without trying to fix them. Sometimes it means listening until they finish. And sometimes, it means reminding them that struggling does not make them weak.
We should also learn to offer this kind of presence to the people around us. A friend may laugh all day and still be fighting something privately. A family member may say they are fine because they do not know how to explain what they feel.
So before giving advice, try listening.
Before searching for a solution, try understanding.
You may never know how much those simple wordsββI understand. You are not alone.ββcan mean to someone who desperately needed to hear them.
Keep learning. Keep growing.
